Leipzig/Germany, Campbell/USA, September 24, 2020 - Rhebo and Barracuda offer cybersecurity for industrial networks and IIoT devices with a new co-marketed solution. The combination of Barracuda’s CloudGen firewall with Rhebo’s network monitoring with anomaly detection allows the detection of both known attack signatures and novel attack patterns and technical fault conditions. With the combined solution of Rhebo and Barracuda, OT security becomes more holistic, seamless and efficient.
The interaction of both solutions is done via an interface (API). While the Barracuda firewall monitors the data traffic at the network or segment boundaries, the Rhebo network monitoring checks the communication within the networks between the individual sites.
State-of-the-Art OT cybersecurity and endpoint protection
The network monitoring by Rhebo Industrial Protector seamlessly monitors the communication within the individual network segments. Deviations from the expected communication behavior are detected and reported as an anomaly. Thus, even novel attacks that cannot be detected by the signature-based approach can be identified and fended off.
The anomaly detection findings support those responsible for OT security in proactively adapting the firewall to the changing risk situation. Furthermore, security automation can be implemented via the interface. Certain activities reported by anomaly detection (e.g. new protocols or functions between two devices) are then added to the firewall block list in real-time and automatically rejected. This is particularly effective for zero-day vulnerabilities where immediate patching of the vulnerability is not possible.
Users of distributed IIoT devices also benefit from the combined solution. Rhebo's anomaly detection can be integrated as a container directly on the Secure Connector, an IoT Edge Device from Barracuda. This means that even devices in distributed environments can be secured in a holistic and scalable manner. The data collected on the IoT Edge Devices is correlated with the data from network monitoring to obtain a more comprehensive security picture of the infrastructure.
