Rhebo Protects Energy Supply Of 1.1 Million People

  • Rhebo strengthens ICS cybersecurity of German Thüringer Energienetze GmbH & Co. KG
  • Monitoring and audit ensure identification and mitigation of prevailing vulnerabilities
  • Enhanced cybersecurity strategy protects energy supply of German federal state Thuringia

Leipzig/Erfurt, German, Jan. 12, 2021 – As a provider of industrial cybersecurity and stability solutions, Rhebo supports Thüringer Energienetze GmbH & Co. KG (TEN) in the effective implementation of its cybersecurity strategy. The ICS monitoring with anomaly detection strengthens the availability and resilience of TEN operations through real-time notification of anomalies occurring in the industrial control systems. This enables the Thuringian energy supplier to detect and localize even novel attack patterns as well as technical error states that threaten their infrastructure.

As the largest distribution network operator in the German federal state of Thuringia, TEN Thüringer Energienetze reliably supplies energy to more than 1.1 million people, the local economy and downstream distributors. As a progressive company, it has established an intelligent, high-performance infrastructure to which network customers, electricity and gas suppliers, and more than 16,000 decentralized generators are connected.

TEN responded to the increasing complexity of its ICS infrastructure and the growing number of distributed systems in 2017 by establishing a certified information security management system (ISMS). Rhebo extends the established security measures with area-wide monitoring for novel attack patterns, technical error states and other critical changes in communication behavior. The Stability and Security Audit conducted by Rhebo successfully identified and eliminated various security gaps and vulnerabilities.

»With Rhebo, we can centrally and reliably secure our energy supply as well as the municipal utilities and over 16,000 decentralized energy producers we serve«, Daniel Beyer, advisor for IT and Interfaces at TEN, confirms. »The newly gained transparency and continuous monitoring visibly increases our network quality.«

As a result, TEN is ideally prepared for the challenges of digitalization and decentralization in energy supply.
